Stanley Nwabali has been one of Nigeria’s standout goalkeepers since his impressive performances at AFCON 2024, where he helped the Super Eagles reach the final, Footynaija.com reports.

Now, it looks like his time at Chippa United is coming to an end, with multiple reports linking him to interest from clubs in Europe, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.

Nwabali joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United and has become one of the top goalkeepers in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL). His AFCON heroics, including four clean sheets in seven games, boosted his reputation, and now bigger clubs are circling.

This season, the 28-year-old has kept 7 clean sheets in 19 matches across all competitions. His shot-stopping, composure, and command of the box have made him a key player, but with his contract nearing its end, Chippa United are prepared to let him go.

Several clubs are keeping a close eye on him. Here are some possible destinations:

1. English Championship

A move to England would be a big step for Nwabali. Queens Park Rangers have reportedly shown interest. Playing in the Championship would test him against stronger opposition and improve his chances of cementing Nigeria’s No. 1 spot.

2. Saudi Pro League

Saudi clubs are known for offering huge wages, and Al-Ettifaq are reportedly in the mix. While a move to Saudi Arabia would be financially rewarding, the league’s intensity is not on the same level as Europe, which could impact his long-term growth.

3. South Africa’s PSL Giants

If Nwabali decides to stay in South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are ready to snap him up. Staying in the PSL would make him one of the league’s biggest stars, but it might not be the best for his international ambitions.

Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers are heating up, and having a top-performing goalkeeper is important. Nwabali’s next move will determine how much he improves before the crucial matches ahead.

In the past, goalkeepers like Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye struggled due to lack of club game time. If Nwabali joins a more competitive league, he will gain valuable experience to help the Super Eagles.

Also, earlier in the season, there were reports that Nwabali would eventually “stay put” in the South African club. But as it stands, according to a recent report by Legit.ng, the Nigerian international will most likely move than not.

With his exit from Chippa United looking certain, the big decision is where he goes next. A move to Europe could sharpen his skills, while a Saudi switch would bring financial security. Whatever he chooses, Super Eagles fans will be hoping he continues his rise and solidifies his place as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.
