Forbidden Fruits, a witchy new horror movie being released by the Independent Film Company and Shudder sometime in 2026, dropped its first teaser trailer today. With a star-studded cast, Forbidden Fruits follows a secret, sadistic witch cult operating within a mall store, who are questioned by a newcomer.
Forbidden Fruits is directed by Meredith Alloway in her feature directorial debut, co-written with Lily Houghton. The lead cast comprises Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti, and Alexandra Shipp, with Gabrielle Union and Emma Chamberlain also featuring. Forbidden Fruits has no official release date within its 2026 window; check out the teaser trailer below:
Specifically, Forbidden Fruits’ synopsis says: “Free Eden employee Apple secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours – with fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But when new hire Pumpkin challenges their performative sisterhood, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate.“
The teaser shows chaos ensuing as Apple and Pumpkin (presumably Reinhart and Tung, respectively) try to turn the others against their rival. Forbidden Fruits is produced by Mason Novick, Diablo Cody, Trent Hubbard, and Mary Anne Waterhouse.
Reinhart and Tung are two of the biggest stars of teen-focused fiction in recent history: Primarily, Reinhart is known for portraying Betty Cooper in The CW’s Riverdale for its seven seasons, but also stars in underrated dramas like Hustlers, and is set to lead the upcoming book-to-movie adaptation The Love Hypothesis.
Tung, meanwhile, is the star of Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, but may be about to become a major horror actor between Forbidden Fruits and co-leading Osgood Perkins’ upcoming movie The Young People with Nico Parker. Pedretti is known for horror-thriller series like You and The Haunting of Hill House, while Shipp is famous for Barbie and Straight Outta Compton.
While Forbidden Fruits has this spellbinding cast and an enticing premise going for it, Shudder is also the company behind some of the most unique successful horror movies in recent years. It also recently partnered with IFC to release Good Boy, the canine-led haunted house feature that maintains a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
IFC is also preparing to release its fantasy romance 100 Nights of Hero in theaters this Friday, December 5. Forbidden Fruits dropping its teaser now suggests that it’s probably not waiting until next year’s spooky season to be released theatrically — so it could be disrupting the box office at a different time of year.
