Star Wars is giving Jar Jar Binks his best shot at redemption yet, in a new one-shot comic that will tell a Prequel-era story teaming up the erstwhile Gungan with the Jedi Kelleran Beq. This is an immediately iconic pairing, if for no other reason than both Binks and Beq were portrayed by the same actor, Ahmed Best.
In fact, Best co-wrote Star Wars: Jar Jar Binks #1 with veteran comic author Marc Guggenheim. The book features art by Kieran McKeown, and comes out early next year.
According to the issue’s synopsis, Jar Jar “faces the consequences” of his role in Revenge of the Sith, while also playing a role in the early days of the Rebel Alliance.
Jar Jar Binks Teams Up With Kelleran Beq In A Story Written By Actor Ahmed Best
Star Wars: Jar Jar Binks #1, Written By Marc Guggenheim And Ahmed Best; Art By Kieran McKeown; Available February 2026 From Marvel Comics
Here is the synopsis for Star Wars: Jar Jar Binks #1:
Jar Jar faces the consequences of giving emergency powers to Chancellor Palpatine. What pivotal role does Jar Jar play in the formation of the Rebel Alliance? Guest starring fan favorite Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq!
In other words, Star Wars is revealing a previously untold chapter in Jar Jar Binks’ history, filling in the story of what he did in the wake of Revenge of the Sith, while also promising him a “pivotal role” in the genesis of the Rebellion.
Rehabilitating Jar Jar’s image will be no small feat, but co-authors Marc Guggenheim and Ahmed Best are going to give it their best shot. Adding Kelleran Beq to the mix adds a notable dimension to the attempt to afford Jar Jar some renewed heroic dignity. It also serves as a further extension of Best’s Star Wars legacy.
In its own right, Best’s appearance as Kelleran Beq in The Mandalorian was a shot at redemption for the actor, who has the unfortunate distinction of playing one of Star Wars’ most maligned characters. Pairing Beq and Binks together suggests the creators hope the Jedi character helps elevate Jar Jar in status.
The New Jar Jar One-Shot Is The Prequel Character’s Latest Step Toward A Redemption In Marvel Lore
Jar Jar Binks #1 Will Reckon With The Character’s Legacy
Truth be told, few Star Wars fans are actively clamoring for a story that ties Jar Jar Binks into the origins of the Rebel Alliance. However, few would begrudge Ahmed Best the opportunity to redefine his infamous Prequel Trilogy character, nor the chance to spend more time fleshing out Kelleran Beq, a more well-regarded figure in Star Wars canon.
Being part of Star Wars hasn’t been as easy for Best as it has for other performers and creators; the latest Jar Jar Binks one-shot is a great way for him to stay involved in the franchise, while also acknowledging that there is more to be done in terms of turning Jar Jar into a more respected Star Wars character.
