Kylo Ren Witnesses The Jedi Together in Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #10

The reveal comes in the latest issue of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, the Marvel series following Kylo Ren’s faltering philosophy after The Last Jedi and before his return to the light in The Rise of Skywalker. It’s been a harrowing journey, to say the least, and one which makes history as Kylo Ren finally chooses to confront Luke Skywalker’s presence through the Force.

Returning to Darth Vader’s meditation chamber and seeking Luke out, Kylo Ren succeeds in locating and confronting Luke on the purely spiritual plane. But readers are also shown that Luke is not alone, but reunited with the Force forms of Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Qui-Gon Jinn in the afterlife.

While the late Jedi are shown only in silhouette, it’s easy enough for fans to identify them instantly. And while Luke Skywalker never actually got to meet Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars canon (yet), there is no question the legendary Jedi’s teachings impacted Skywalker’s training through Obi-Wan. As Luke finally accepts his place in this largeer legacy, he informs Kylo Ren that he “comes from a long line of teachers.”

While the ramifications and implications of this scene will send the imagination of any fan reeling (Qui-Gon finally getting to meet Anakin’s son is world-shaking alone), the most subtle difference might be the most lasting. Gone is the desperation, stoicism, and frustration seen in Luke’s last living chapter. Instead, the serenity and understanding that defined his final moments before becoming one with the Force mark a permanent change. And one befitting a Jedi legend.

Considering fans have long wondered why Obi-Wan’s Force ghost didn’t help Luke when his pupil turned against him, this scene may be the first step towards a larger understanding. And if nothing else, allows fans to permanently change their concept of ‘where Luke has gone’ to honor his true place among the Jedi Order.
