Star Wars has revealed that Grogu’s rescue during Order 66 was secretly tied to a key Jedi legacy. Saved from the Jedi Purge, it has since been proven that the Jedi Master who saved the powerful child was always going to be the one to ensure Grogu’s safety.
When the newly christened Darth Vader and the 501st Legion came to the Jedi Temple and began massacring Jedi Masters and younglings alike, Grogu was saved and taken away from Coruscant thanks to the efforts of Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. Now, it’s been confirmed that Grogu’s rescue was no mere coincidence, considering Beq’s newly revealed Jedi history.
Kelleran Beq Debuted In The Mandalorian Season 3’s Order 66 Flashback, Saving Grogu
In The Mandalorian season 3, Grogu reflects on his time at the Jedi Temple during the events of Order 66. This key flashback to the Jedi Purge saw a trio of Jedi Knights desperately fending off murderous clone troopers as they sought to get Grogu to Master Beq (played by Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best).
Once finding Grogu, Beq took on multiple clones while dual-wielding blue and green lightsabers. Future entries in the Star Wars canon confirmed Beq’s nickname was “The Sabered Hand” due to his prowess as a gifted swordsman. Securing a ship with the Naboo Royal Guard, Master Beq and Grogu successfully escaped Coruscant.
While the duo’s history between Order 66 and Din Djarin finding Grogu remains unknown, new revelations about Kelleran Beq’s early Jedi history have shed new light on why the other Jedi Knights were so determined to get the child to Master Beq in particular during the purge: Grogu was Beq’s personal responsibility.
Star Wars Proves There Was No Better Jedi To Save Grogu Than Kelleran Beq
As seen in Marvel’s new Jedi Knights #8 by Marc Guggenheim and Madibek Musabekov, Jedi Master Kelleran Beq is shown saving a youngling who had just been recruited and taken from her homeworld, only for her Jedi escorts to die after encountering a group of pirates en route to Coruscant.
Set before The Phantom Menace, this further shows that Kelleran Beq was responsible for younglings before they were chosen to become Padawans.
Before The Mandalorian season 3, Kelleran Beq first debuted as the host of Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge, a children’s game show which premiered on YouTube back in 2020. Combined with a mention in the recent novel Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade, we know that Master Beq cared for and trained younglings at the Jedi Temple’s crèche alongside Yoda.
Thanks to this new issue setting an epic precedent, we now know that there was no Jedi Master better suited to save Grogu during Order 66 (or any endangered youngling) than Kelleran Beq.
