Stardew Valley now has a voice acting mod that seriously changes the game. First released in 2016, Stardew has gone through numerous updates in the past decade, becoming a very different game from what it was at launch. One thing the vanilla version has never supported, though, is any kind of voice acting.
A mod by NexusMods user Shpoobie aims to change that. Called “Stardew Voices,” this mod adds near-full voice acting for several major characters. It’s currently available for free download for PC, Mac, and Linux users of Stardew Valley, expanding on the base game in a unique way.
Stardew Valley With A Voice Cast Is Wild
Must Be Heard To Be Believed
“Stardew Voices” features a cast of 12 voice actors, each of whom plays one major character. Included in the credits are Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact voice actor Aiden Dawn, who plays Hayley, as well as GM Hakim, who previously played Doctor Strange in Marvel Snap, here voicing Harvey.
Per the mod’s homepage, all events, festivals, and text bubbles, as well as most dialogue lines for included characters have been recorded. As of its most recent update, on January 9, 2026, it’s still a work in progress, with Shpoobie saying they’re still combing through the game’s files for unvoiced dialogue.
At present, “Stardew Voices” only includes audio for the romanceable villagers — you won’t hear a peep out of Pam, Mayor Lewis, or Robin, for example. The mod’s creator has addressed this limitation, saying that they’d prefer to get “ConcernedApe’s express permission before moving forward with the whole game.”
And, if you’ve been burned before by getting invested in voice acting-inclusive mods like “Star Wars Genesis,” only to be disappointed when you find out they rely on generative AI, don’t worry. The creator of “Stardew Voices” notes that no AI was used in the creation of the mod, and forbids others from using its voice lines for training generative AI models.
This Is A Seriously Impressive Mod
“Stardew Voices” Does Voice Acting Right
I’ve been playing Stardew Valley for a long time, and voice acting is the kind of thing I never thought I’d see added to the game. It’s not that I felt it was “missing” anything with text-only dialogue; on the contrary, I just never thought it needed anything more.
But “Stardew Voices” brings an incredible amount of character, charm, and life to a game that was already overflowing with all of the above. The talent and creativity involved are immediately apparent, and the mod truly feels like a labor of love.
So, if you’re looking for a way to change things up for your next Stardew Valley playthrough, consider trying it out with “Stardew Voices” installed. It may not change the gameplay, but it’ll add an extra dimension to the story and character interaction, making for a whole new experience.
