Members of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) from the North-West zone on Monday, paid a working visit to the Kaduna State Assembly Service Commission.
The visit, led by top NASC officials, marked the first official engagement of the commission with any State Assembly Service Commission in the North-West.
The Chairman of the Kaduna State Assembly Service Commission, Nuhu Goroh -Shadalafiya, described the move as historic strategic.
He added that the visit symbolised commitment to collaboration, peer learning, and strengthening legislative institutions across the country.
“This engagement offers us the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences and challenges, and explore ways of enhancing legislative service delivery,” he said.
Goroh -Shadalafiya further assured the visiting delegation of Kaduna’s readiness to showcase its internal processes, highlight its achievements, and engage in meaningful dialogue to promote efficiency and deepen institutional capacity.
While speaking,the member representing North-West Zone, Suleiman Hunkuyi, who led the delegation, highlighted Kaduna’s proactive approach in initiating the interface.
He explained that the visit was intentional, driven by the Kaduna commission’s zeal and readiness to collaborate, which prompted the NASC to prioritise the state for its inaugural visit.
Hunkuyi commended the leadership of the state commission, citing the significant progress and transformation recorded within just a year.
He acknowledged the synergy between the commission’s management and the legislative leadership, emphasising, “while perfection may not be the goal, real and measurable improvements have been made.”
Hunkuyi highlighted key reforms such as recruitment, budgeting, and legislative review as steps that had positioned Kaduna as a model for others.
He also praised the promotions and conversions within the vommission’s workforce,92 promotions in 2025 and 57 in 2024, calling it “a testament to growth and development.”
Hunkuyi stressed the importance of adequate funding and legislative backing, urging the swift completion of budgetary and legal processes to further empower the commission.
He emphasised the need for proper budget implementation and cash backing to turn plans into action.
” Kaduna has the potential to become a national reference point for legislative service commissions across Nigeria,”Hunkuyi said.
While speaking,the speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Dahiru Liman, emphasised the importance of unity between the arms of government, adding that all governmental bodies work toward a common goal.
Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Magaji Henry, the speaker pointed out the assembly’s efforts to work within its limitations while ensuring staff welfare and efficient administration.
He credited their modest successes to the commitment of the state assembly service commission and reaffirmed their dedication to improving governance.
“When workers are motivated, the system runs more smoothly, and the impact is visible.
“Drawing from national standard, the assembly and commission should continue learning and collaborating with national institutions for better results,” Liman said (NAN)(www.nannrws.ng)
