Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Tuesday highlighted the significant role of strong traditional institutions in driving grassroots development in the country.

Aiyedatiwa stated this in Akure, while inaugurating the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye as the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas.

The governor said that his administration was fully committed to supporting traditional institutions and advancing their cause.

Aiyedatiwa said his government would continue to engage regularly with traditional institutions and listen to their concerns by tapping into their insights and collaborate on initiatives that would benefit the people.

“We will continue to hold our traditional rulers in high esteem and partner you to ensure a safe, peaceful and prosperous Ondo State.

“We believe that a strong traditional institution is vital for sustainable development at the grassroots.

“Your Majesties, the institution of traditional rulership remains the bedrock of our society.

“You are the custodians of our rich cultural heritage, the preservers of our values and the closest link between the government and the grassroots.

“Your roles as peacemakers, arbiters, community developers and moral compasses are indispensable in fostering a stable and progressive society,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa appreciated the immediate past chairman of the council, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi for his dedication, hard work and invaluable service to the state.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye appreciated the governor for his appointment, and promised the council’s support to the state government.

Oba Ogunoye promised that the council would sustain the existing unity among the Obas. (NAN)(www.nannnews.ng)
