SUPER Eagles of Nigeria stars Calvin Bassey, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been included in the official Team of the Tournament for the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the tournament’s Best XI today, two days after Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in a chaotic final in Rabat.
While the Super Eagles have three players in the XI, champions Senegal and runners-up Morocco dominate the selection with four players each.
The Team of the Tournament was selected by CAF’s Technical Study Group.
Morocco’s Yassine Bounou is the goalkeeper of the Best XI, behind a back four of Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), Moussa Niakhaté (Senegal), Bassey and Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) in the 4-3-3 formation.
The midfield is made up of Lookman, who registered three goals and four assists in the tournament; Pape Gueye who scored Senegal’s winner in the final, and Idrissa Gueye (Senegal).
Osimhen, who scored four goals in the tournament, spearheads the attack, flanked by Morocco’s Brahim Diaz, the top scorer with five goals, and Senegal great Sadio Mane, the Player of the Tournament.
“The Team of the Tournament was selected following an in-depth technical analysis conducted by the CAF TSG, which implemented a fully integrated evaluation model throughout the competition,” CAF explained.
“This process combined remote and on-site assessments, supported by live data platforms, multi-angle video feeds and dedicated video analysts, ensuring a comprehensive and objective review of performances across the tournament.”
