Super Eagles and former Flying Eagles forward Salim Fago Lawal has officially signed with Czech First League side Viktoria Plzeň, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 23-year-old striker joins the club from Croatian side NK Istra 1961, following an impressive season in which he scored 15 goals and registered 2 assists.
Lawal, who previously played for Mavlon FC, first caught international attention at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup before earning a call-up to the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished third.
Salim Fago Lawal: Transfer Deal and Contract Details
Lawal has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Viktoria Plzeň and will wear number 70 for the club. The Czech side opted not to disclose the financial details of the transfer.
However, Soccernet.ng understands that there is a guaranteed €2.4 million, potentially rising to €3 million in add-ons.

The deal also reportedly includes a sell-on clause, which ensures NK Istra benefits from any future transfer. Lawal is expected to be available for selection immediately, having already returned from national team duties at the AFCON.
Super Eagles forward reacts to Viktoria Plzeň move
“After the departure of Rafiu Durosinmi, we wanted to increase competition in our attack, which is fulfilled with the arrival of Salim Fago Lawal,” said Martin Vozábal, Viktoria Plzeň’s sporting director. “He is a pacey player who can play both as a central striker and on the wing. We are glad the transfer has now been completed and can count on him for the weekend league match.”
Lawal expressed excitement about the move:
“I know Viktoria mainly from their European performances, where they have consistently delivered great results. This offer really attracted me. I see it as a step forward in my career, and I want to help the club as much as possible.” he said via the club website.
He added: “Since I was with the national team at the Africa Cup, I think I am well-prepared and will want to be fully available to the coaches immediately. I am looking forward to my first training session and meeting my new teammates.”
Lawal’s Rising Career
Lawal’s standout performances in Croatia earned him a spot in the Super Eagles squad, and he featured at the 2025 AFCON against Uganda and in Nigeria’s preparatory match against Egypt. He can play across the front line — as a central striker or on either wing.

His move to Viktoria Plzeň is a major step forward in his professional career. This also provides him a platform to compete in Central Europe and potentially in European competitions.
