Super Eagles star Victor Boniface responded to a social media post by Cristiano Ronaldo following Portugal’s dramatic penalty shootout victory against Slovenia, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The Portuguese talisman issued an apology on his Instagram after their win, eliciting reactions from football enthusiasts, including Bayer Leverkusen forward Boniface, who showed support with three heart emojis.

Portugal and Slovenia were deadlocked in a 0-0 draw after regular time, despite Portugal being labeled as favourites to win the knockout round.

In extra time, Portugal had a chance to avoid penalties, but Jan Oblak saved Ronaldo’s penalty with ease in the 103rd minute after a foul by Vanja Drkusic.

Portugal eventually secured their victory in the penalty shootout, with goals from former Manchester United forward Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva, earning them a 3-0 win and passage to the next round.

Reflecting on the match, Ronaldo described his missed penalty as inexplicable in his Instagram post: “Momentos inexplicáveis. Vamos dar tudo! Obrigado (Unexplainable moments. Let’s give it our all! Thank you).”

Boniface was among those who promptly showed support for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner by reacting with three heart emojis to Ronaldo’s post.

Portugal, having advanced to the round of 16, now face a tough challenge against France, another favorite to win the tournament.
