Cypriot club Aris Limassol are in talks to sign experienced Nigerian defender Leon Balogun following his release from Rangers, Footynaija.com reports.

Balogun, who turns 37 later this month, is a free agent after his second spell at Ibrox ended at the close of the 2024–25 season.

The veteran centre-back made 114 appearances for the Scottish side, contributing three goals and four assists while helping Rangers lift the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and League Cup. He was also part of the squad that reached the 2022 UEFA Europa League final.

According to Cypriot outlet Thema Sports, Aris are pushing to bring the Super Eagles international to Limassol on a free transfer.

Head coach Artsyom Radzkow is keen to pair Balogun with former Rangers teammate Connor Goldson, with whom he forged a solid partnership in Glasgow. The duo played together 73 times and were known for their defensive chemistry.

Goldson endured a difficult campaign last season, as Aris conceded 31 goals — ten more than league winners Pafos. Club officials hope Balogun’s leadership and top-flight experience will stabilise the backline.

Balogun has also featured for several clubs in Germany and England, including Mainz, Wigan, and QPR. Talks are ongoing to finalise the deal in the coming weeks.
