Birmingham City are reportedly in advanced talks to sign a highly experienced full-back as a free agent, with his contract at Turkish giants Fenerbahce set to expire on July 1, Footynaija.com reports.

According to Football Insider, the West Midlands club are keen to seize the opportunity following the collapse of a proposed move to Besiktas for the 27-year-old defender.

Birmingham, fresh from their League One title triumph, are showing no signs of hesitation in the transfer market, with manager Chris Davies targeting players who can elevate the squad for an immediate Championship promotion challenge.

Osayi-Samuel, who previously impressed at QPR and earned international recognition, featured in 39 matches for Fenerbahce last season under Jose Mourinho.

Although he didn’t register a goal or assist, his consistency earned him regular starts for the Nigerian national team during recent international windows.

Fulham were reportedly interested late in the season, but Fenerbahce held on despite his contract winding down. Now, Birmingham are set to pounce.

The Blues already have Ethan Laird in their ranks, but the club appear determined to bolster the position with experience. Their transfer approach reflects ambitions to return to the Premier League, with other targets including Demarai Gray, who could return on loan from Al Ettifaq, and Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle.

The potential signing brings top-level pedigree, including European experience and a proven track record in the Championship, having previously won QPR’s Young Player of the Year award before moving abroad.
