Newcastle United are plotting a summer move for Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season, Footynaija.com reports.

The Atalanta star, 27, has been in scintillating form in Serie A and could be set for a return to the Premier League.

Lookman has built a solid career across Europe, netting 82 club goals in spells across England, Germany, and Italy. His time at Atalanta has been particularly fruitful, with 49 goals to his name since joining the Bergamo club in 2022. He also has eight goals in 15 appearances for Nigeria, since switching his allegiance from England in 2022.

The former Charlton Athletic youngster previously played for Everton, Fulham, Leicester City, and RB Leipzig, before finding his best form in Italy.

His standout moment came in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final, where he scored a remarkable hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen to guide Atalanta to their first-ever European trophy.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen on adding more firepower to his frontline, with Callum Wilson’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Although primarily a left winger, Lookman’s ability to operate on both flanks and as a central striker makes him an attractive target for the Magpies, according to Football Insider.

The Nigerian international’s form has not gone unnoticed, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested in signing him last summer. The French giants are still believed to be monitoring his situation, along with other top European clubs.

Despite the competition, Lookman may favour a return to England, where he first rose to prominence at Charlton Athletic. His Premier League experience and recent resurgence make him a strong candidate to hit the ground running if Newcastle secure his signature.

With the summer transfer window on the horizon, Newcastle’s pursuit of Lookman promises to be one of the key sagas to follow.
