Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi could be on the move as reports suggest he is open to leaving Nottingham Forest amid increasing uncertainty about his role at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi, who has been a pivotal player for Forest, delivered a crucial 11 goals in the 2022-23 Premier League campaign to help the club avoid relegation.

However, a series of injury setbacks have impacted his consistency this season. This has limited the Nigerian striker to just one goal in 17 appearances so far in the 2024-25 season.

Meanwhile, New Zealand international Chris Wood has emerged as the preferred striker for manager Nuno Espirito Santo, having scored 14 goals in 22 league games and sitting fourth on the Premier League top scorer chart. This has also seen Awoniyi slip further down the pecking order at the City Ground.

Recent reports suggest Nottingham Forest are actively pursuing Brentford forward Yoane Wissa in the January transfer window to bolster their attacking options.

The Congolese international’s potential arrival is expected to further limit Awoniyi’s playing time, which has prompted speculation about his future with the club.

West Ham United have reportedly shown interest in signing the 26-year-old, who remains contracted to Nottingham Forest until 2027. The Hammers are looking to offload Brazilian forward Luis Guilherme and see Awoniyi as a potential replacement.

While no concrete offers have materialised yet, sources close to the player told Soccernet.ng that he is “open to exploring a move away” from Forest in search of more regular playing time.

Awoniyi’s next move will be crucial for his career as he looks to regain the form that once made him a standout in Bundesliga and in the EPL.
