The Super Falcons’ preparations for their highly anticipated friendly against France in Angers have taken a hit as the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the absence of defender Tosin Demehin, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Galatasaray Women centre-back, who is a key figure in Nigeria’s defence, was initially included in the squad to face the 2019 Women’s World Cup hosts. However, NFF’s statement leaves head coach Justin Madugu with a significant gap to fill ahead of the match.

Demehin was initially included in the squad for the high-profile friendly against the 2019 Women’s World Cup hosts, scheduled to take place at the Raymond Kopa Stadium. However, it has been revealed that Demehin will not be available for the encounter due to an injury.

The statement read: “The match comes up inside the 18,000-capacity Stade Raymond Kopa – home ground of Ligue 1 side Angers SCO, which was opened in 1912 and renovated seven years ago.

“Madugu and his charges are set to have the official training session at the match venue on Friday evening, with the coach robbed of a defender following injury to Turkey-based dependable centre-back Oluwatosin Demehin,”

Demehin’s absence compounds the challenge for the Super Falcons, particularly after her pivotal role at the 2024 Olympic Games under Randy Waldrum, where Nigeria fell short in a tough group stage.

Since taking over, Coach Madugu has guided the team to two consecutive victories, but this latest blow adds pressure as he considers defensive options for the encounter.

England-based Rofiat Imuran, Nasarawa Amazon’s Sikiratu Isah, experienced centre-back Osinachi Ohale, versatile Michelle Alozie, and the returning Ashley Plumptre offer potential replacements.

Additionally, FC Robo’s Shukurat Oladipo could also be in contention as the Super Falcons aim to maintain their defensive solidity against a strong French side.
