Super Troopers 3 Release Date Revealed: August 7, 2026

The release date for the highly anticipated Super Troopers 3 has now been revealed.

The Super Troopers franchise debuted in 2001 with Jay Chandrasekhar as both director and star. In the first film, his character Arcot “Thorny” Ramathorn, a lieutenant with the Vermont State Police Department, teams up with his fellow state troopers to solve a major case.

Seventeen years later, Super Troopers 2, which shows the team dealing with a U.S. altercation with Canada, was finally made, and now a third sequel is on the way. The gang is back together for Super Troopers 3, eight years after its predecessor came out.

Searchlight Pictures will release Super Troopers 3 on August 7, 2026, with cast members Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Brian Cox, Marisa Coughlan, Nat Faxon, Chace Crawford, Andrew Dismukes and Hannah Simone.

Back in 2018, plans were already in motion to create a third film in the Super Troopers franchise, with the comedy troupe Broken Lizard working on the script.

Production officially got underway in August 2025 and wrapped up just a couple of months later. While that doesn’t seem like a lot of time to film a movie, the Super Trooper movies have always had small budgets and have been able to succeed at the box office with a great return on investment.

The first film earned $23.2 million against a minuscule $3 million budget. The sequel, meanwhile, had a $13.5 million budget and grossed $32 million. As of this writing, the budget for Super Troopers 3 is unknown.

The franchise has become a cult classic in the comedy film world, even though the first movie received a dismal 37% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics. (It fared much better with audiences at 90%.) Super Troopers 2 earned a similarly low score of 35%, with the Popcornmeter (audience score) currently at 64%.

The first sequel almost never got made, but when fans showed up in full force to help crowdsource the film on Indiegogo, Searchlight Pictures finally moved forward with Super Troopers 2. This fan-led endeavor proved that the demand was there among moviegoers for more stories about the hilarious officers from the Vermont State Police.

Now Super Troopers 3 is on the way. It is scheduled to debut in August 2026. At the box office, the comedy threequel will open against the second weekend of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
