The Supergirl movie will be the next film in James Gunn’s DC Universe, following Milly Alcock’s debut in David Corenswet’s 2025 installment. The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” is wasting no time getting its Kryptonian icons up and running, as Kara Zor-El will have the spotlight next year.

In an interview with @Nerdtropolis, David Krumholtz, who is playing Kara’s father, Zor-El, in Supergirl, elaborated on how the 2026 entry will honor the Woman of Tomorrow book that the film is based on. He began by stating, “It’s very true to the graphic novel that it’s based on, Woman of Tomorrow, very true, which is great. Plus Lobo, which I can say, everybody knows that Jason Momoa is playing Lobo in it. So it’s that comic plus Lobo.”

While he couldn’t say much, Krumholtz added, “I’ll just say that I’m thrilled to be the next piece of telling the story of Krypton and further clarifying what the House of El is all about.” Another Kryptonian who will be featured in the film is Emily Beecham, who has been tapped to play Kara’s mother, Alura In-Ze.

In the Superman movie, it was revealed through a big twist with Jor-El and Lara that they had sent Kal-El to Earth in order to rule and make the planet the next Krypton, following Lex Luthor’s exposure of their message to the world. With Zor-El being Jor-El’s brother, Supergirl may be using him, Alura, and Kara to further establish the DCU’s House of El history.

Craig Gillespie directed the superhero installment based on a script by Ana Nogueira, who adapted Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow from Tom King and Bilquis Evely, which became one of DC Comics’ most well-received miniseries. This will be the heroine’s first solo film since 1984, when Helen Slater brought her to the big screen.

The Supergirl movie cast will also feature key players from the original comic, with Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. Alcock’s DCU installment won’t be the only outing from DC Studios in 2026, as Clayface will be released on September 11.

Supergirl will arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.
