DC has officially introduced a Kryptonite unlike any other to Superman and the Super-Family’s lore. Not only is this new variant a color we’ve never seen before with an unusually strange effect, but it also holds another quality that makes it completely unique. And its first victim is none other than Supergirl, Kara Zor-El.

DC has released a preview for Sophie Campbell’s Supergirl #7, and its opening pages unveil a major addition to Kryptonian lore: Enchanted Turquoise Kryptonite. This is a brand-new color variant and also carries the added twist of being magically enchanted.

While much about this Kryptonite remains unknown, the preview reveals its immediate effect on Supergirl, transforming her into a red-tailed mermaid. Still, fans are left to wonder whether it was the Kryptonite itself or the enchantment that caused this transformation.

Supergirl #7 opens with Kara discovering a turquoise crystal, which transforms her into a mermaid (very Disney of DC). As her lower half turns into a red, fish-like tail, she bursts out of her skirt, while her upper body remains mostly the same except for new gills along her neck. Kara identifies the crystal as a variant of Kryptonite.

Struggling to breathe with her new gills, Kara rushes toward the nearest body of water. There, she encounters Princess Shark, who greets her by saying, “Yes, Supergirl, it was I who planted the enchanted turquoise Kryptonite, all part of a ploy to lure you to the sea.”

What stands out about Princess Shark’s statement is her use of the word “enchanted.” This revelation makes the new Kryptonite variant even more unique. The preview cuts off shortly after this scene, leaving fans waiting until the issue’s full release on November 12, 2025, to learn exactly what the Kryptonite is enchanted with and how it alters its natural effects.

For 82 years, Kryptonite has been an essential part of Superman’s legacy, first introduced in 1943 on the Superman radio series. However, 2025 may be its biggest year yet, with a brand-new variant debuting in Supergirl #7, along with two ongoing Superman titles focused on Kryptonite: Superman Unlimited and Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum.

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum has been especially significant, introducing several new versions of the glowing rock, including purple, cobalt, and speckled, each with strange and unique effects on the Man of Steel. Now, thanks to Supergirl and Princess Shark, turquoise can be added to the growing list of Kryptonite variants.
