The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a suspect and recovered exhibits from a robbery incident in the Kado area of Abuja.
Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT police command in a statement said the suspect was arrested during a failed robbery attempt in the area.
According to her, residents of the area in a distress call said the incident occurred at about 6.15 am on Friday, January 23.
The call received at the Mabushi Divisional Headquarters indicated that armed robbers were attacking motorists at the MRS Filling Station in Kado.
“Upon receipt of the report, a police response team from Mabushi Division swiftly mobilised to the scene,” Adeh said.
She added that the police arrived immediately at the scene, which caused the suspects to flee.
However, the team of police officers engaged in a pursuit and gunfire with the suspected criminals leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.
“During the encounter, one of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the remaining suspects fled into nearby bushes,” Adeh stated.
She added that items including the suspects’ operational vehicle, a black-coloured Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number JJJ 112 DW, one Barreta pistol, one locally made pistol, one Firman generator and one Tecno Spark 4 Android phone were recovered.
Other items include one Tecno T353 mobile phone, one Access Bank ATM card, one catapult, one pair of pliers, one pair of canvas shoes, two pairs of slippers, one singlet, one cap, one jacket, one T-shirt and one handkerchief.
She also noted that the police team is currently working to arrest the fleeing suspects, as the FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has reassured residents of the command’s commitment to securing lives and property.
She further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and ensure that all suspicious moves and individuals are promptly reported to the command’s emergency lines.
