Suspected bandits have killed the Acting Chairman of the Katsina State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Amadu Surajo, in a deadly attack on Saturday night at Mai Rana village, Kusada Local Government Area of the state.

The Katsina State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the tragic incident during a telephone interview with Punch on Sunday.

“The DPO informed me that the incident happened last night,” ASP Sadiq said.

The Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, also verified the killing, saying, “Yes, he was killed yesterday by the bandits.”

Sources said the assailants also killed three other villagers and injured several others during the late-night raid. The gunmen abducted Surajo’s two wives and one of his daughters, who is a university undergraduate.

However, it was later reported that the first wife was released.

Surajo, who was previously the state secretary of MACBAN, had been serving as the acting chairman following the mysterious disappearance of the association’s state chairman and National Vice President, Munnir Lamido, in June 2024.

Lamido had vanished while travelling from Katsina to Kaduna. His vehicle and two phones were recovered near Maraban Jos, but his whereabouts remain unknown.

The attack has left the Mai Rana community in shock and mourning. The remains of Surajo and the other victims are expected to be buried later on Sunday morning, according to Islamic rites.

Security operatives have reportedly been deployed to the area to restore peace and commence investigations.
