Sydney Sweeney has lined up her next film, a remake of the James Bond spoof That Man From Rio. This comes as rumors are swirling that the actor is under consideration to play the Bond Girl in the next James Bond film. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is reportedly trying to tip the scales in her favor.

Sweeney refused to address the rumors directly. Instead, she said her casting would depend on the script.

Deadline reported that Sweeney has been cast in the starring role of a remake of That Man From Rio, a French film that was originally released in 1964. Justin Lin is on board as the director, with Chase Palmer writing the script and Apple distributing the film.

Lin is best known for directing multiple Fast and the Furious films, as well as Star Trek Beyond.

Sweeney (who will also be an executive producer) and Lin’s version will be a modern adaptation of That Man From Rio, which tells the story of Adrien Dufourquet, who visits his fiancée, Agnès, after taking leave from the military. However, when he arrives, he discovers that she has been kidnapped by a group that stole an Amazonian statue.

While her character hasn’t been revealed, Sweeney will presumably play the role of Agnès. An actor hasn’t been cast yet for the character of Adrien.

The original film, which has a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, starred Jean-Paul Belmondo, Françoise Dorléac, Jean Servais, Adolfo Celi, Simone Renant, Roger Dumas, Daniel Ceccaldi, and Milton Ribeiro. It was meant to spoof James Bond and also took inspiration from The Adventures of Tintin.

After its 1964 release, That Man From Rio earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, but it lost to the Cary Grant romantic comedy Father Goose. The other nominees in the category that year were A Hard Day’s Night, One Potato, Two Potato and The Organizer.

Best Original Screenplay was called Best Writing (Story and Screenplay — Written Directly for the Screen) during that time.

Sweeney is best known for her small-screen roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, both of which earned her Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress. On the big screen, she has starred in such films as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Reality, and Madame Web.

Before she films the James Bond spoof, Sweeney will be starring in Christy, a film about female boxer Christy Martin. It just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in theaters on November 7. In December, the actor will star in an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s psychological thriller novel The Housemaid.
