Tamar Braxton is facing renewed scrutiny after Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Tiffany Red publicly claimed she has not been paid royalties for her work on Braxton’s song “King.”
Red says the issue centers on a standard Letter of Direction that must be signed by the featured artist in order for SoundExchange to release royalties already sitting in what the industry calls a black box account.
According to Red, the funds have already been set aside for contributors and do not require Tamar to pay anything out of pocket. They only require her signature.
Red shared an email from SoundExchange confirming that only Tamar can authorize the release of those royalties and that there is no alternative payment method. Red also says she has repeatedly tried to contact Tamar about signing the document without success.
As the conversation moved to social media, screenshots circulated of Tamar responding to fans who asked about the unpaid royalties.
In one message, she appeared to reject responsibility, writing that she was not the label. When a fan urged her to sign the Letter of Direction, she replied that she was in a good mood and did not want to continue the conversation.
Red’s receipts appear to show clear evidence of the stalled payment. She says she may pursue legal action if the situation remains unresolved.
For now, the royalties remain frozen until Tamar signs the authorization needed for release.
