Tamar Braxton addressed speculation that she once had an affair with Birdman during a recent appearance on Sherri.
The conversation came up after an episode of The Braxtons in which her sister Towanda accused Tamar of having a relationship with one of Toni Braxton’s former flames, leading some viewers to assume she was referring to Birdman.
“Where did that rumor come from? That is preposterous,” Tamar said on the show. She explained that her connection to Birdman, whose real name is Bryan Williams, has always been strictly platonic.
According to Tamar, she was friends with Birdman long before he became romantically involved with her sister. She shared that she actually introduced Toni to him after years of friendship and professional overlap. Tamar said Birdman had once dated one of her friends and later grew close to her after he and his brother, Slim Williams, expressed interest in signing her to Cash Money Records.
When Toni divorced her ex-husband Keri Lewis in 2016, Tamar said Birdman was serious about pursuing her sister. Toni and Birdman began dating that year, got engaged in 2018, and later reconciled after a brief split.
