It was like a reunion when the national body of Tansian University Umunya Alumni Association visited the Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe at the local government headquarters in Neni.
The alumni members came in solidarity from different states in Nigeria to show support to Hon. Ibekwe who is also their member. The executive chairman has degrees in different disciples from various Universities and Tansian University is one of them.
In his address, the President General of the association, Mr. Bernard Anyaduba who was represented by Hon. Augustine Onyemaobi congratulated the mayor for his victory at the poll during the last local government election. Hon. Onyemaobi stated that Hon. Ibekwe through his good work has transformed Anaocha Local Government Area to be one of the best in Nigeria. He said members are expressing their appreciation for the chairman’s good work in the local government. Hon. Onyemaobi who is the immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State said alumni members will always support the chairman in his administration. He enjoined him to keep the ball rolling in his good work. He pleaded with the Mayor to help in developing Tansian University especially in area of infrastructure.
In his words, the Relations Coordinator of the group who is also the Chairman of Anambra State Branch of the alumni, Dr. Nze U. Nze said that the group is gradually moving from strength to strength. Dr. Nze stated that immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Onyemaobi is Tansian University product. Hon. Ibekwe the present Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area is also a product of Tansian University. He revealed that apart from politics other alumni members in other fields of life are making the University proud. The academic doctor said that their University needs the support of the alumni. He pleaded with the executive chairman to key in directly or indirectly in ongoing development programme/project of the alumni to add value to Tansian University.
In his speech the Mayor thanked the alumni members for the visit. He said he is so happy for his brothers and sisters not only remember him but also visited him.
The mayor who has traditional title of EZEUGO in Neni community thanked the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for all the supports he had rendered to him as Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area.
Ezeugo said that within few months in office his administration has achieved a lot especially in area of education, skill acquisition, youth empowerment, security, road maintenance, power supply, transportation, employment opportunities and so on.
He also used the opportunity to advised fresh graduates of the university who joined in the visit to remain focused in life. He enjoined them: to add skill acquisition to the degree they have obtained; should not follow crowd, remain humble. The chairman said that humility is the key because the virtue contributed to the feat he achieved.
Hon. Ibekwe stated the importance of Alumni networks in promoting unity, mentorship, and progress. He strongly encouraged the association to continue its advocacy for quality education and youth empowerment.
He added that the alumni can collaborate with the local government in some potential areas such as education, youth development and so on. The comrade thanked all and Sundry that visited and wished them well in all their endeavours.
