GUNMEN have killed a businesswoman in the Mayo Dasa area of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.

The incident occurred around midnight today, December 6, 2024.

The Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the details in a phone interview.

He reported that the assailants invaded the compound and used machetes to break the windows of the house.

“She was studying in her room for an upcoming examination when they suddenly opened fire on her, shooting her in the back, with the bullet exiting through her stomach,” he explained.

After breaking the windows, the terrified occupants of the house came outside, but surprisingly, the attackers did not take anyone with them.

He also noted that the gunmen did not steal anything.

The second incident occurred in the Jerbanbur area of Jalingo, where the same group of gunmen fired upon a clergyman. They left without taking any items or kidnapping anyone else from the residence.

Usman stated that both victims died while receiving treatment in the hospital.

He described the attacks as unusual, as gunmen typically kidnap victims and demand a ransom afterward.

According to him, the police have launched a thorough investigation to identify the culprits behind these brutal crimes.

While expressing condolences to the victims’ families, the police urged them to find comfort in God and assured them that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for this act.
