ORGANISED labour in Taraba State has declared an indefinite strike to begin on Monday, August 11, 2025, in protest against alleged irregularities in the state’s Biometric Data Capture exercise.
The decision, announced jointly by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), follows a resolution reached at the Joint State Administrative Council meeting on August 6.
A statement signed by NLC Chairman Peter Jediel and TUC Chairman Sule Abasu accused the Biometric Data Capture Committee of engaging in illegal practices that have negatively impacted workers.
The unions faulted the state government for failing to act on an earlier ultimatum, saying they were left with no option but to proceed with industrial action.
“Following the mandate of the Joint State Administrative Council meeting of the NLC and TUC, the leadership has resolved to take all necessary action, in collaboration with other stakeholders, to stop the illegality being carried out by the Biometric Data Capture Committee,” the statement read.
The resolution includes:
1. Commencement of a statewide strike from the early hours of Monday, August 11, 2025.
2. Immediate mobilisation of members.
3. A call for all workers, civil society organisations, and residents to prepare adequately by stocking essential supplies.
All NLC and TUC affiliates, along with civil society groups, have been instructed to form strike implementation committees across ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure effective enforcement.
