TROOPS from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari have successfully dismantled a suspected arms trafficking ring in Southern Taraba State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a swift and tactical raid on a hideout in Byepyi Village, located along Tsukundi Road in Wukari Local Government Area.
During the operation, two suspects—55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa—were apprehended.
Following their arrest, further interrogation led to the recovery of key items, including an AK-47 rifle, an accompanying magazine, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, and a Bajaj motorcycle.
In a statement, Captain Olubodunde Oni, Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, which is yielding valuable insights into their operations.
Commending the troops for their professionalism and prompt response, Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa emphasized that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of illegal firearms and improve security in the state.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks within its jurisdiction and commended Taraba residents for the support and cooperation, urging them to continue providing timely and reliable information to security agencies.
