Tax Reform Bills: We Are Behind Gov Mohammed – PDP National Chairman Defies Presidency

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed support for Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s position on the Tax Reform Bills which he tagged anti-people.

Recall that the Presidency on Monday had asked the governor to retract what it called his “inflammatory” statement on the bills.

It said the governor’s statement, “We’ll show Tinubu our true colour,” neither reflects the stance of the North nor the constructive dialogue needed between states and the Federal Government.

However, defending Mohammed’s submission, the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, and Sunday Ude-Okoye, who was recently confirmed as the party’s legitimate National Secretary by an Enugu Court of Appeal, stated that the party is not intimidated by any threat.

Damagum, while describing the bills as anti-people, insisted that the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government cannot continue borrowing without any tangible results.

Speaking to Punch, he said, “The party is solely behind his (Gov Bala Mohammed) remarks. These tax reforms are anti-people. The government cannot continue to borrow with nothing to show. This is the position of our party.”

On his part, Okoye stated that the Nigerian people and the PDP Governors are capable of handling any threat.

He said, “As an opposition party, we are not afraid of threats from anybody. The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum has expressed his views on the Tax Reform Bills, so it is left for them to look into it.

“Any issue of threat to the governors, I want to say that Nigerians and the governors are equal to the task.”
