Tax Reform Bills Will Make States Live Up To Their Duties – Sunday Dare

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has said the Tax Reform Bills would make state governments sit up.

Naijaonpoint reports that Dare stated this on Sunday while reacting to internally generated revenue (IGR) generated from six geo-political zones of the country and each of the zones from the federal government.

The data was cumulative, including what each state of the federation contributed in internally generated revenue and what was shared among states.

According to the data, South West region, including Lagos State, Ogun State, Osun State, Ekiti State, Ondo State and Oyo State, collectively contributed ₦3.11 trillion in IGR but received ₦849.71 billion, representing 27.4 percent of their IGR.

The South-South region, including Rivers State, Bayelsa State, Akwa Ibom State, Cross River State, Delta State and Edo State, collectively contributed ₦1.08 trillion but received ₦543.49 billion, representing 50.3 percent of their IGR.

The North West region, including Sokoto State, Kano State, Kaduna State, Katsina State, Kebbi State, Jigawa State, and Zamfara State, collectively contributed ₦211.27 billion but received 574.32 billion, which is 271.8 percent higher than their IGR.

The North East region, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states, collectively contributed ₦174.50 billion but received 411.84 billion, representing 236 percent higher.

The North Central region, including Benue, FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau state,s collectively contributed ₦154.54 billion but received ₦408.66 billion, representing 264.4 percent higher.

The South-East region, including Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, and Imo State, collectively contributed ₦101.09 billion but received ₦341.46 billion, representing 337.8 percent more.

In his reaction, on his X handle, Dare stated that the Tax Reform Bills aim to correct injustice and promote fairness.

“Facts don’t Lie. This Government will always put the facts on the table for all Nigerians. President Tinubu is an unrepentant progressive and you can add nationalist to that. The Tax Reform Bills he is championing is rooted in the deep conviction that the Federal Government and the Sub-nationals have responsibilities and must live up to them. He is baking a bigger cake but wants equity, fairness and justice,” he wrote.
