CHAIRMAN, Students Affairs and Tertiary Institution Relations Committee, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Dr. Abiola Adimula, yesterday, emphasised the role of tax in the development of the country’s economy.

Speaking during the catch-them-young tax quiz competition among secondary schools students in Edo State organised by CITN for public secondary schools in the state, Adimula said that the initiative is to create an interactive atmosphere for students to share ideas and contribute positively to the economic development of the country.

Adimula added that the institute is playing a key role towards improving tax policies and guidelines that will be mutually beneficial to both the government and taxpayers in the country.

Adimula noted that the core objectives of CITN in organising the event is to, among others, enlighten students on the role of tax in the development of an economy, as well as create an interactive atmosphere for them to share ideas and contribute positively to the economic development of the country.

Represented by a former bursar of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Dr. Imagbe Victor, Adimula said that CITN is doing a lot of investment on students both at secondary schools and tertiary institutions levels. He said: “We believe in enhancing their resourcefulness as the future of the institute.  In tertiary institutions, much sensitisation and awareness creation is going on, and membership of the Association of Nigerian Taxation Students (ANTAS) in tertiary institutions is progressing by the day.”
