Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, was on Saturday laid to rest in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Fondly called Sommie, Maduagwu was tragically killed in late September during an armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe district of Abuja.
Her funeral drew notable personalities, including Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), as well as several All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leaders and other dignitaries.
The burial mass was held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, where Rev. Fr. Peter Ezewuzie delivered the homily.
He comforted the grieving family, urging them to take solace in the meaningful life Sommie lived.
“The Lord who created us knows the beginning from the end. He is all-knowing. Some of you may be unhappy that a life has been cut short, but you won’t know if that is how God planned it,” he said.
In his remarks, Peter Obi expressed sympathy for the family and reflected on the inevitability of death.
“We cannot question God. When I heard of her death, I didn’t know that she was from Agulu even before I tweeted about it,” Obi said.
“Our coming here will help to console you, but we know that this loss is a huge one. It is the wish of God, and none of us can question God. Please do remember her and her immediate family in your prayers.”
