TECNO PHANTOM V Fold2 and PHANTOM V Flip2 Launched

Tecno has just unveiled two new foldable smartphones – the Phantom V Fold2 and Phantom V Flip2 – both featuring the company’s proprietary AI Suite, marking the first time these AI capabilities come pre-installed on their devices.

The Phantom V Fold2 is an evolution of its predecessor, retaining core specs such as the Dimensity 9000+ processor, a 7.85-inch inner display, and a 6.42-inch cover screen. However, the most notable upgrade is its refined design.

When unfolded, the device is impressively thin at just 6.1mm, and even when folded, it measures under 12mm. Despite packing a larger battery, it has also shed significant weight, dropping from nearly 300 grams to a lightweight 249 grams.

One standout feature of the Phantom V Fold2 is the Ella AI assistant, which runs on Google’s Gemini AI engine. This assistant offers a range of intelligent tools, including Smart Q&A for real-time responses, AI Summary for reading PDFs and webpages, live AI Translation during calls, and AI Writing for text summarization, creative content, and proofreading. Additionally, the big screen enables unique features like AI Artboard, which turns rough sketches into detailed drawings, and AI Wallpaper, which lets users generate custom wallpapers from simple text prompts. Tecno has also integrated its Universal Tone Technology, ensuring accurate representation of diverse skin tones in photos.

The redesigned camera module houses three 50MP sensors: a primary wide camera, an ultra-wide lens, and a portrait shooter. For selfies, there are two 32MP cameras – one on the outer cover screen and one on the inner display.

The phone comes with 24GB of RAM (12GB physical + 12GB virtual) and 512GB of storage. The battery capacity has been boosted to 5,750mAh, supporting 70W wired and 15W wireless charging. With a price of just $1,099, the Phantom V Fold2 is positioned significantly below other foldables on the market. It will be available in Africa starting September 23, with launches in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America shortly thereafter.

Meanwhile, the Phantom V Flip2 brings a fresh take to Tecno’s flip-style foldables. The biggest change is its larger cover screen, which now features a 3.64-inch square panel with a resolution of 1,056 x 1,056, replacing the smaller circular display of the previous model. This display wraps around the camera module, similar to designs seen in Motorola’s Razr and Xiaomi’s Mix Flip. Inside, the Flip2 boasts a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution.

Though the weight and dimensions of the Flip2 haven’t changed significantly, it remains compact, weighing less than 200 grams, and measures 7.6mm when unfolded and 16mm when folded. The larger cover screen supports over 2,000 apps, allowing users to handle a variety of tasks without opening the main display. It also introduces fun, interactive pets that can be customized, played with, and even used for entertainment.

Tecno has added a desktop application center, allowing users to launch multiple apps simultaneously without tedious screen navigation. The cover display also supports a full keyboard, making it easier to dial numbers or send messages directly from the smaller screen.

On the camera front, the Phantom V Flip2 features dual 50MP rear cameras, including an ultra-wide lens with a 150-degree field of view, offering a much wider capture angle than typical smartphone cameras. There’s also a 32MP selfie camera inside the foldable screen with autofocus.

The Flip2 shares the same AI Suite as the Fold2, including AI Translation, AI Writing, and the Ella voice assistant. It is powered by a 4,720mAh battery, one of the largest among flip phones, with 70W fast charging that promises a 50% charge in just 15 minutes and a full charge in 43 minutes.

Priced at $699, the Phantom V Flip2 comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Like the Fold2, it will launch in Africa on September 23, followed by a broader release in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
