Teen Wolf: The Movie 2 has gotten a major script update from Tyler Posey, which suggests the film could move forward. Following on from the MTV supernatural teen drama series, which ran from 2011-2017, Teen Wolf: The Movie marked a major return for the franchise in 2023. The Paramount+ original is set years after the show’s finale, reuniting the original cast.
While Dylan O’Brien and Arden Cho were notably absent, stars like Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed, Tyler Hoechlin, and Colton Haynes returned for the film, which picks up 15 years later, following Scott McCall’s return to Beacon Hills to face a new supernatural threat. Unfortunately, Teen Wolf: The Movie received a mixed critical response, although it had solid viewership on streaming.
Now, speaking to PEOPLE, Tyler Posey has revealed that he has already written a script for Teen Wolf: The Movie 2 and is actively trying to get it made. While promoting his latest project, London Calling, the actor shared that he still feels connected to the franchise and wants to lead the charge on reviving it. Check out his statement below:
We did a film for Paramount a few years ago now, and originally it was a three-picture deal, and then it sort of abandoned ship after the first movie. But everybody wants more.
So I wrote the second film. I’m trying to get that one made, and then I have an idea for the third. Or we’re just going to do a TV series, but there will be more, and I’m going to spearhead it. I want it really bad.
Posey also confirmed the script for the Teen Wolf sequel is “ready to go” as he “wrote it a few years ago.” He described the story as “really cool” and praised the concept, and when asked about the cast, Posey teased: “We definitely have some people on board.” Speaking about his decision to lead the sequel project, Posey said:
I was the leader of the cast. Now I want to be the leader for the entire project. I feel like I know what the fans want, and I want to deliver it for them. They’ve been amazing to us over the years, and I want to give it to them.
Posey emphasized that Teen Wolf is still the project he gets recognized for the most, and he embraces that legacy, saying: “I want to continue it. Me and all the fans and a lot of the actors feel like it was halted at a time where we should have kept it going. So I think there’s more to come.”
What This Means For Teen Wolf: The Movie 2
Posey’s announcement is the most significant update yet on a potential sequel to Teen Wolf: The Movie, and it’s a clear indication that momentum is building behind the scenes. While no official greenlight from Paramount has been confirmed, the existence of a completed script and the cast’s interest suggest a second film is possible and could potentially be in development.
This new update also represents a major shift in Posey’s role within the franchise. While he has always been the face of Teen Wolf, Posey’s intention to “spearhead” future projects means he wants to take on a leadership position, which could result in a sequel (or a new series) that is more aligned with fan expectations compared to 2023’s film.
Tyler Posey’s excitement about Teen Wolf‘s future is exactly what the franchise needs. The original series thrived on emotional depth and character development, something that the 2023 movie attempted to recapture but didn’t fully achieve. Having Posey step up as not just the star but the creative driving force, may actually be the best path forward to continue the franchise.
Posey’s comments seem to reflect a genuine drive and an understanding of what fans want, which hopefully means fixing what went wrong with Teen Wolf: The Movie. With a dedicated fanbase and a potential returning cast, this adds credibility. However, whether Paramount or another studio decides to move forward with Teen Wolf: The Movie 2 is another story entirely.
