Nigerian Afrobeats star Tems has won her second Grammy Award, taking home the Best African Music Performance prize at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
Her song “Love Me Jeje” beat out a strong field of Afrobeats hits, including collaborations by fellow Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Asake, Wizkid, Yemi Alade, and Davido, as well as Chris Brown’s “Sensational” (featuring Lojay).
This win solidifies Tems’ position as a leading force in global music.  She previously won a Grammy in 2022 for her contribution to Drake and Future’s “Wait for U.”
This year’s ceremony marked a significant milestone for Tems, as it was her first solo Grammy win and the first time she delivered an acceptance speech for the award.  It also makes her the first Nigerian artist to win in this category.
Tems was nominated for three Grammys this year, but while she didn’t win in the Best R&B Song and Best Global Music Album categories, her victory in the Best African Music Performance category is a major achievement.
