Gunmen 2

The Ebonyi State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects in connection with a shooting incident that left a student injured during the Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at Ebonyi State University (EBSU).

Naijaonpoint understands that the incident occurred on campus while the results of the election were being announced.

According to police reports, the suspects allegedly attempted to disrupt the process by firing gunshots into the air to disperse the crowd.

Tragically, a bullet struck one of the students, who was immediately rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, for urgent medical care.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, the police confirmed that officers on the ground responded promptly, preventing further escalation and apprehending the culprits.

“The swift response by police operatives on ground led to the arrest of the suspects. A locally made pistol used in the act was also recovered,” Ukandu said.

The police spokesperson noted that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. He assured that they will be arraigned in court once the investigation is concluded.

The command further reassured members of the university community and the public of its commitment to ensuring safety and order during campus activities.
