A Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operative in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State has allegedly shot and killed a 25-year-old man during an altercation.
It was gathered that the CJTF operative also injured his elder brother, sparking a violent protest by youths in the community.
According to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on December 6, 2025, when the CJTF member, identified simply as Hamza, reportedly engaged in a heated disagreement with two residents Ibrahim Abdullahi, 25, and his 60-year-old brother, Lawal Abdullahi, both of Tashar Ladan, Kurfi.
During the altercation, Hamza allegedly opened fire, killing Ibrahim on the spot and inflicting gunshot injuries on Lawal.
News of the shooting triggered a protest by irate youths, who set ablaze the patrol vehicle belonging to the CJTF. The situation escalated as the protesters attempted to burn down the Kurfi Local Government Secretariat, but security personnel intervened and dispersed them before further damage was done.
The victims were rushed to the Kurfi Comprehensive Health Centre, where a medical doctor confirmed Ibrahim Abdullahi dead. Lawal Abdullahi, popularly known as Kurma, was admitted and is said to be responding to treatment.
