Terror returned to North Central Nigeria as gunmen abducted at least four travellers along the busy Isanlu–Isin–Omu Aran highway in Kwara State.
Naijaonpoint reports that the incident came barely 48 hours after the massacre of over 40 people in Agwara and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, added to growing concerns over the region’s deteriorating security situation.
In a separate but related development, suspected terrorists on Monday also attacked a police border patrol outpost at New Kalli village in Borgu, Niger State.
The assault has further deepened fears among residents, many of whom have started fleeing Agwara and Borgu following rumours of another looming attack by criminal gangs.
Sources told Vanguard that the Kwara highway ambush was executed with precision as armed men laid siege to the road, a major route connecting Kwara South to the state capital, Ilorin.
“Bandits are still heavily present in the area and are actively targeting travellers heading towards Ilorin,” a source said, adding that the assailants forced vehicles to stop and whisked away selected passengers to an unknown destination.
As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had yet to confirm the incident or release any details regarding rescue efforts for the kidnapped victims.
Kwara State has been grappling with a rising wave of insecurity, marked by repeated cases of abductions and violent attacks.
It will be recalled that on November 18, 2025, gunmen stormed a mid-week service at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, killing three worshippers and kidnapping 38 others, including the pastor.
