Barely 24 hours after gunmen invaded a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, terror groups have struck again, this time kidnapping four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu LGA.
Sources told SaharaReporters that the attack occurred on Wednesday evening while the victims were harvesting rice on their farmlands.
A community source confirmed the incident, saying the gunmen arrived suddenly and surrounded the farmers at work.
“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate. Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” the source said.
Residents reported that the attackers operated unchallenged for several minutes, forcing the farmers into the bush before whisking them away to an unknown location.
Locals lamented that increasing insecurity in Edu LGA has forced several farming settlements to shut down, as bandits now target farmers during the harvest season.
“People are afraid to go to their farms. This is the period we gather produce, yet this is when they attack the most,” a resident said.
The Kwara State Police Command had yet to react officially as of the time of filing this report.
Naijaonpoint reported earlier that the gunmen had stormed the CAC church mid-service during a livestreamed programme. Footage circulating online showed worshippers screaming and fleeing as the attackers opened fire inside the building.
Three people were confirmed dead, and several others, including the pastor, were kidnapped.
