The Elder Scrolls 6 fans haven’t been given a ton of information about the exciting and monumental RPG, and have more or less been staring at the same landscape image for the past seven years speculating about the game’s future. Substantive updates about the project from Bethesda are very rare, but recently we got some important (albeit obvious) information about the game’s release.
In an interview with Dutch publication Power Unlimited, Bethesda’s Todd Howard stated that he believes Grand Theft Auto 6 will release before The Elder Scrolls 6, even after GTA 6‘s delay to November 2026. This means the soonest players will get their hands on The Elder Scrolls 6 is around 2027, if not later.
The statement by Howard isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it is an update nonetheless. Howard has already clarified recently (via GQ) that The Elder Scrolls 6 is “still a long way off,” and fans weren’t expecting to see it anytime soon. That said, rumors over the status of the game have been circulating in recent months, suggesting that the game is already in a playable state.
Fan enthusiasm for The Elder Scrolls 6 is complicated, with players understanding that it will be worth the wait, yet growing ever-frustrated by a lack of transparency surrounding the game’s development and timeline. Unlike Rockstar with GTA 6, Bethesda has made no real promises regarding a release window, and therefore there is no real risk of delay announcements and the ensuing negative press.
Further, rumors were circulating earlier this year about a possible new trailer for the game that showcases actual cinematics or even gameplay footage, with a possible reveal at this year’s The Game Awards on December 11.
We All Knew This, But We’ll Take What We Can Get
While it isn’t a momentous occasion by any means, Howard’s comments about The Elder Scrolls 6 release date are few and far between, and we’ll take what we can get when it comes to real info on the game’s launch.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is easily Bethesda’s most ambitious and most highly anticipated game, despite the studio focusing their efforts on various projects, including Starfield updates, a rumored Fallout 3 remaster akin to Oblivion’s recent shadow project, and more.
Bethesda is balancing a lot of plates at the moment, and they seem to be taking their time developing The Elder Scrolls 6 into the best possible game it can be before providing a definitive release window.
