As fans of The Expanse continue their wait for the long-desired Season 7 of the sci-fi series, the TV show’s heroes are officially continuing their story in a new adventure with the launch of The Expanse: A Little Death.
Continuing the story of the TV series, the new tale from BOOM! Studios finally puts Amos Burton into the spotlight. Recruiting the talents of actor Wes Chatham to co-write A Little Death with writer Andy Diggle and artist Francesco Pisa, the first issue of the story is everything fans hoped it would be. That’s good news for the audience, but very bad news for Amos.

In the original novels upon which the TV show is based, a majority of the action takes place in the years 2350-2356. But The Expanse: A Little Death jumps close to two years into the future, finding the show’s stars facing a new diplomatic mission on the planet Auberon.
In just a few years since the Mars Free Navy bombarded Earth with a catastrophic asteroid attack, Auberon is, at this point in The Expanse timeline, one of the most promising and successful colonies to be founded through the use of the Ring Network. And with success, comes security, pleasure, and a new kind of ‘churn.’
A lush agriculture world, and a potential new Earth-level goldmine, Auberon has become a hotspot for big business… and the smaller criminality and corruption that the series is famous for. All of which makes the Big Moon station the perfect place for Holden to negotiate, while Amos Burton looks to disappear into some “B & B” (brothels and booze).
But all of that changes when the Rocinante’s quiet enforcer walks into old friends from his native Baltimore, and a new underworld just as eager as that old one to see him dead.

It doesn’t take long to see exactly why writers Andy Diggle and Wes Chatham characterize A Little Death as a version of a Man on Fire revenge story in The Expanse universe. Without diving into spoilers, the first issue sees Amos brought face to face with the dangers of his own childhood, and responding as his fans would predict.
All of which makes it a promising new chapter in The Expanse canon for more than just TV show fans, as well. Amos Burton’s origin in the books and show is more aligned than other parts of the adaptation, but this new story is a rare opportunity.
A genuinely new tale in Amos Burton’s life, written under supervision of The Expanse creators, and set within the 30 year period which the novels themselves skipped over for the concluding chapters of the series. There’s no telling where this story will head, but it’s one fans of The Expanse will want to watch unfold.
