Just in case any one thought the shockingly horrific Absolute Joker was as twisted or monstrous as DC’s villains would get in the company’s new universe, the re-imagined version of Reverse-Flash has officially been revealed. And in bad news for The Flash, this take on Eobard Thawne is a literal speed demon.
The Absolute Reverse-Flash is A Completely New Breed of Monster
Absolute Flash #12 by Jeff Lemire, Nick Robles
The newly-revealed cover art for Absolute Flash #1 by artist Nick Robles depicts a horrifying showdown. One one side, Wally West in his new Flash costume. And on the other, is a giant, monstrous, demonic, spiked, clawed enemy who appears to possess a hole in his chest connected to the same electricity powers behind the Absolute Flash’s superspeed.
Based on that link between their powers, and the twisted new origin story revealed for this universe’s Eobard Thawne thus far, it’s safe to say this version of a Reverse-Flash is the most disturbing yet. At least, physically. Read on for the full synopsis below, showing that DC is keeping tight-lipped about how this battle will shift the series going forward:
Wally must face his demons in order to save Fort Fox! But when the dust settles, what is the future of the Flash?
What Kind of Monster is The Absolute Version of Reverse-Flash?
Eobard Thawne, Jay Garrick, and Barry Allen Have All Been Consumed So Far
With no Speed Force in this version of the hero’s origin story and power set, instead tied to experiments conducted by Eobard Thawne following WWII, the nature of forces at work remain unknown. And while Barry Allen has been seemingly consumed and killed by the powers at play, the fate of Eobard Thawne and his commanding officer, Jay Garrick, are a total mystery.
Assuming that Barry Allen has merely been changed, altered, or mystically ‘absorbed’ by the strange dimension unlocked byt Thawne, it would make little sense for him to literally become a monstrous demon. And the same goes for Garrfick. Which leaves Thawne, a demonstrated seeker of knowledge at any cost, as the most likely victim of his own monstrous ambition.
Comic fans can witness the birth of this Reverse-Flash when Absolute Flash #12 arrives February 18, 2026 from DC Comics.
