‘The Plan To Impeach Fubara Is Dead On Arrival’ – APC Chieftain

A senior chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculation of a plot to impeach Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, insisting the ruling party is focused on stability and good governance rather than political confrontation.

The party leader, who spoke with This Day on condition of anonymity, said rumours of an impeachment scheme were politically motivated and would not materialise.

“The plan to impeach Governor Fubara is dead on arrival. It’s only on paper. Those pushing that narrative are doing so for political reasons. The APC is interested in stability in Rivers State, not crisis,” the chieftain said.

According to the party source, the APC’s priority in Rivers is to encourage an environment that promotes peace and development, particularly amid ongoing political tensions in the state.

Court Adjourns Impeachment Challenge In Oyigbo

The development comes as the Oyigbo High Court, Rivers State, sitting in Port Harcourt, adjourned indefinitely a suit filed by Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, challenging the impeachment process initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Justice Florence Fiberesima adjourned the case after being informed that two separate appeals had been filed concerning the matter.

The judge held that the Court of Appeal must first determine the issues raised before proceedings can continue at the lower court.

At the resumed hearing, counsel to the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, and 27 lawmakers, S.I. Amen (SAN), informed the court of the pending appeals and orally applied for a stay of proceedings.

The application was not opposed by counsel to the claimants, Paul Orikoro (SAN), nor by Lawrence Oko‑Jaja (SAN), who represents other defendants in the suit — Victor Oko‑Jumbo, Orubienimigha Timothy and Sokari Goodboy.
