At the instance of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), today Friday December 19 2025, both factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were formally invited for a meeting to address the lingering leadership crisis.
On one side, was the Bala Mohammed–Makinde camp, fronted by Kabiru Turaki, desperately clinging to a National Working Committee.
On the other, was the Wike-backed Caretaker Committee, led by Alhaji Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, The meeting was not a mediation exercise but a fact-finding engagement convened by an institution keenly aware of its constitutional boundaries.
INEC made its position unmistakably clear. The Commission reminded the illegal Turaki-led faction that;
(i) it is fully aware of two subsisting judgments of the Federal High Court, both of which raised grave procedural and statutory concerns about their claims. INEC emphasized that the matter is squarely before the Court of Appeal and that the Commission will await the final pronouncement of the court.
(ii)There was no endorsement, no recognition, and no backing of the Turaki led faction, and a sober reminder of the supremacy of the law with utter disappointment expressed by INEC at the faction’s blatant disregard for court judgments, a conduct made more troubling given the involvement of senior legal practitioner; an SAN who should know better.
Following stern reference by the INEC Chairman to the recommendation made earlier by the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party that;
Sen. Adolphus Wabara and Taofeek Arapaja visibly embarrassed and frustrated, to the point where the duo regretted attending altogether to the utmost shock of all present at the meeting, blatantly jointly accused their own members of Board of Trustees (BoT) of compromise thereby indicting themselves and the arm of the party which Wabara claims to lead. Their reaction has caused disaffection within the ranks of the BoT with many party elders expressing discomfort with further association with Wabara and his faction that appears to understand the law yet chose to insult it publicly.
Only weeks ago, voices within the Bala–Makinde–Turaki camp arrogantly claimed to have INEC’s backing. However at the meeting held today at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that falsehood fell flat. Suddenly, the same group is seen retreating into the excuse of sub judice. This sharp U-turn exposed both their weakness and hypocrisy.
The fog has been cleared, the veil has been torn and the mask taken off.
We now see clearly a faction driven by desperation, not legitimacy, noise not Law
The contradictions are too loud to ignore.
Illegality cannot withstand time. Courts do not bow to propaganda. The law will speak and when it does, it will be loud, final, and unforgiving.
