Veteran Nollywood actor Akin Lewis has shared fresh thoughts on his first marriage, saying he is still confused about why the union ended.
Naijaonpoint reports that the respected film star described the breakup as one of the most painful moments of his life, adding that many years later, the reason behind his wife’s decision to leave remains unclear to him.
He spoke during a recent appearance on the African A-List Podcast, where he reflected on love, personal loss, and his long journey in the Nigerian film industry.
Lewis explained that the sudden end of the marriage affected him deeply and forced him to rethink how he views relationships and human actions.
He said that the experience raised many questions that were never answered, making it a difficult chapter to come to terms with.
Despite the heartbreak, the actor said he chose not to allow the experience to destroy him, instead, he focused on personal growth, his career, and a better understanding of life.
According to him, the setback helped him become stronger and more committed to his work.
He said: “I still don’t understand why my first wife left. Even after all these years, it remains a mystery to me.
“The sudden end of that marriage shook me deeply and changed how I see relationships and people.
“It was one of the saddest times in my life, and it left questions I never got answers to.”
During the discussion, Lewis also addressed complaints by some film producers about the fees charged by veteran actors in Nollywood.
He expressed displeasure over such views, saying they show a lack of respect for years of hard work and dedication.
The actor explained that he has spent over five decades building his career across film and theatre, with many years devoted to formal training and continuous learning.
He added that he still studies the craft to remain sharp and relevant.
Lewis made it clear that experienced actors should not be expected to work for less or feel lucky just to be cast in films.
He insisted that anyone who wants his service must be ready to meet professional standards, including proper payment, respect, and fair treatment.
