“The support I am seeing for him is encouraging” – Davido shows solidarity with Very Dark Man as he calls for his release

Nigerian music star Davido is the latest celebrity to show solidarity with social media activist, Very Dark Man.

Taking to the micro-blogging platform Twitter now known as X, he said that outside of the noise, it’s good to see the good that Very Dark Man did impacting lives and people actually appreciating it. The Grammy nominee added that seeing people show support for VDM is encouraging as he calls for the freedom of the activist.

Kemi Filani reported that on Friday, the Nigerian Police Force arrested the social media activist in Abuja. His lawyer, Denise Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest on his X account.

Also showing support for him, veteran actress, Rita Edochie had called for his freedom, as she stated that the activist is the only young man who is societally outstanding. She stated that if VDM is silenced, no one is ready to take his place in lending a voice to society.

It isn’t surprising to see Davido show support for VDM as the two have struck a close friendship over the past year.

Last year, Very Dark Man had hung out with Davido, and the music star had shared photos to his Instagram story, calling him a freedom fighter, which didn’t sit well with many.

When reports made rounds that Davido had sent his bodyguards to bully businessman, Abu Salami in Abuja for reneging his contract, VDM stood up for him. He admitted that the bodyguards in the video belonged to Davido, however, he doesn’t believe the report that the guards killed a man, as there was no evidence to back it up.

Also, when Davido followed VDM on Instagram, he had sent a message to his haters, making them know that their opinion of him doesn’t matter anymore as long as he is recognized by Davido, whom he crowns, as the number one Afrobeat artiste in the world.

Despite his controversial lifestyle, some celebrities have fallen in love with VDM and publicly supported him.

Big Brother Naija Level Up winner Phyna nominated him to run for President of the Youth Democratic Party (YDP). She stated that she would boldly and proudly stand by him, as she believes a better Nigeria will come through him.

Meanwhile, Vee Iye criticized VDM’s supporters, stating that they may need a mental evaluation. She stated that it was time to hold certain people responsible as she emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in advocating for Nigerians’ rights, dismissing the idea of individual freedom fighters.
