The very first Polestar smartphone is now official

Polestar has announced its very first smartphone, as expected. To nobody’s surprise, the company essentially rebranded the Meizu 21 Pro, and that’s how we got the Polestar Phone, which is the name of this device. It is running Android, of course.

The very first Polestar smartphone is here, the Polestar Phone

Why did Polestar do this? Well, both Polestar and Meizu are owned by Geely, a Chinese car manufacturer. Geely is a huge company, and this was the easiest thing to do. The Meizu 21 Pro is a nice-looking phone, so why not? Other companies are doing it.

Polestar says that this phone comes with pure “Scandinavian design aesthetics of extreme simplicity and luxury”. The Polestar logo on the back is “glorious, restrained, and not obvious”, says the company. Do note that the text within quotation marks comes from machine translation from Chinese.

The Polestar Phone was announced in China, hence the need for translation. The device is made out of metal and glass, while its sides are flat. There are four separate circular “islands” on the back, three of which are reserved for the cameras. They’re located in the top-left corner and vertically-aligned.

It is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and has the same specs as the Meizu 21 Pro

The Polestar Phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. A 6.79-inch 3192 x 1368 display is used here. That is an LTPO OLED display, and it’s flat. Its refresh rate is adaptive and goes up to 120Hz. This panel is provided by BOE, by the way, and can reach 1,850 nits of peak brightness.

Polestar’s first smartphone also offers 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It has an in-display fingerprint scanner, an ultrasonic one. A 5,050mAh battery is also included, while 80W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging is supported.

A 50-megapixel main camera (OIS) is backed by a 13-megapixel ultrawide unit, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera (3x optical zoom, OIS). On the front, you’ll find a 32-megapixel camera.

The phone is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. It comes in one color only, the ‘Polestar White’. The phone measures 164.98 x 74.42 x 7.98mm and weighs 214 grams.

The only way users can order this phone is through the Polestar app… in China

What’s interesting is that the only way for users to get this phone is to order it through the Polestar app. It’s priced at CNY7,388 ($1,020). This phone comes with integration with Polestar cars, though at the moment that only works with the Polestar 4.
