The House of Representatives member for Enugu North/Enugu South federal constituency, Hon Chimaobi Atu has said that there is no gain in hiding the fact that there is serious hunger and food shortage in Nigeria, but urged the citizens to remain steadfast in their productive endeavours so that the starvation could quickly be eradicated.
He further said that the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi remains his political idol, whom he emulates and tries to leave up to the expectation of Nigerians, noting that despite some members of the Labour Party abandoning the platform through which they got to their respective positions, he (Atu) remains in LP just like many others.
He made the remarks while distributing Easter food palliatives to constituents that included, the youth, women groups, different Muslim communities, market traders, street vulnerable groups, the physically challenged and many more.

“We all know that things are not the way they should be; there is serious hunger in the country, serious hunger in the country. So how do we do it? That is why we are giving palliative as our little assistance hoping that one day a new Nigeria will emerge when we could have abundant of food, when we will have security, social amenities, scholarships,” Atu said
According to the Rep, his allocation of the palliatives goes beyond political party affiliation to benefit any resident or member of the Enugu metropolitan constituency, despite his Labour Party political affiliation.
“This palliative is meant for the people of Enugu north and south federal constituency, whether you are a Labour, PDP, APC, NNDP, SDP, whatever political party. It’s about Enugu’s north and south federal constituency. We’re in governance and not a party affair and that is what the palliative is meant for.”
Atu however said that despite the recent defection from the Labour Party to other political parties in Enugu state, he remains resolute and will not abandon the party that gave him a ticket to the national assembly.
“You can see that I’m a Labour Man, I have a principal that I look up to, likewise every other person has someone they look up to. In a party there must be disagreements, people disagree to agree. You may think we disagree now but for us, we don’t see it as disagreement. We are better and stronger now, we have started a journey and we must reach our destination,” Atu said.
