Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has stated that the midfield partnership of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Cole Palmer is currently the best in the English Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.
Chelsea have had a decent start to the Premier League campaign, as they sit third, with six wins, two draws, and three losses.
They have had to play most of the campaign without their talismanic attacking midfielder Cole Palmer, due to an injury.
In the last two seasons, the Englishman registered 37 goals and 19 assists in the Premier League for the Blues.
Nonetheless, in his absence, players like Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, Pedro Neto, and a few others have taken up the creative burden of the team.
Palmer is expected to return to action after the international break, and Mikel Obi is upbeat about his comeback.
Recall that Mikel is a big fan of Chelsea, as he spent most of his playing career there. He believes that Palmer’s return would automatically make Chelsea have the strongest midfield partnership if he plays alongside Moise Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
What Mikel Obi Said About Chelsea’s Midfield Partnership
“When I look at that team and I look at Moises Caicedo and his partnership with Enzo Fernandez, what a partnership that is becoming,” Mikel Obi said the Obi One Podcast.
“Fernandez had his struggles when he came into the club, same as Caicedo. But now you can see that those two are building a great partnership in that midfield.
“You talk about great midfield partnerships, you talk about Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, me and the rest of them.
“We can’t talk enough about Caicedo’s performances week in, week out, putting up 9/10, 10/10 performances. It’s so good to see Fernandez as well, starting to take his performances to the next level. It’s the consistency that we want to see.
“If you then throw in a Cole Palmer in that midfield, that midfield trio is going to be the best trio in the Premier League. I don’t see any trio in terms of midfield, that is going to beat us when it comes to that.
“Once Cole Palmer comes back, with Caicedo and Fernandez in midfield, for me the best trio in the Premier League,” Mikel added.
Palmer’s return will definitely give Chelsea a big performance bump and likely improve their placement on the Premier League table.
However, other top clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool, have solid midfielder, who will give any club a run for their money on any day.
