Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will never occupy Nigeria’s highest office.
Wike made the remark during a Thanksgiving service held on Sunday at St. James’ Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja, celebrating the completion of projects commissioned by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at the service, Wike suggested that Obi’s influence has waned, attributing the remaining support to emotional attachment rather than a genuine connection with the former Anambra State governor.
He said, “They say Peter Obi will be President, President where? Out of emotion, most of you are just following someone you don’t know.
“For eight years, Obi was a governor but he never conducted local government election. Now he is saying that democracy is not working but it worked in his time.
“Only Obi was governor and chairman of all the local governments in Anambra State at the same time. The time has passed, he won’t have the opportunity again.”
Naijaonpoint understands that Wike’s stand comes days after Obi submitted a formal proposal for a single four-year tenure to the emerging opposition coalition.
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, confirmed the development on Tuesday, 2nd July.
Tanko confirmed that Obi’s four-year tenure proposal has been presented to the high-level coalition, which includes prominent opposition figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark.
